Touch and the Body

Mana, Breath, and Hands: The Meaning Behind ManaTouch

The name ManaTouch brings together two words: Mana and Touch. Mana feels like warm sunlight; Touch means hands, and it also means connection. This is more than an explanation of the name—it describes how I hope each moment of touch can begin.

Mana, like warm sunlight

In Hawaiian language and culture, mana points to a sacred and powerful presence. To me, it feels like warm sunlight: a life energy that can be sensed and shared between people.

This is not an attempt to make massage sound mysterious. It describes how I understand Lomi: touch carries the way one person meets another.

Breath brings the practitioner back to the present

Throughout Lomi, breath is more than a preparation used once before the session begins. It first brings the practitioner back into their own body and rhythm, so attention can rest more fully with the person in front of them.

I understand this as allowing mana to enter the bodywork through breath and hands. It is a personal understanding shaped by lineage and practice, not a treatment result that can be promised.

Hands communicate more than pressure

Hands can press, move, support, and envelop. They can also communicate speed, hesitation, urgency, or steadiness.

Touch is not simply doing something to another person. It creates a relationship in which both people can feel and respond. This is the simplest meaning behind ManaTouch.

When the name becomes a real session

Before the session begins, I bring my breath and attention back to the present. Once touch begins, the hands move with a steady rhythm—not rushing to complete a sequence, while continuing to notice how the body responds in that moment.

Mana, breath, and Touch are therefore not three separate ideas. Together they form a relationship: the practitioner is present through the hands, allowing someone to be touched while also sensing themselves again.
